The Power of Forgiveness

the other person to die.”

Studies have shown that not forgiving others can
lead to health problems. A 1999 study at Hope
College showed that when subjects remembered past
negative events their blood pressure, heart rates,
and muscle tensions were higher when in unforgiving
conditions than in forgiving conditions. Everett
Worthington, executive director of “A Campaign for
Forgiveness Research”, an organization that funds
forgiveness research, was quoted in the October 23,
2005 issue of USA Today saying, “Chronic
unforgiveness causes stress. Every time people think
of their transgressor, their body responds." He goes
on to say that chronic stress affects the immune and
cardiovascular systems. Forgiveness reduces stress
by replacing negative emotions with positive ones.
Think about whether there are some areas in your life
where you may be holding on to some resentment
toward someone. Consider that it only hurts you.
The object of your resentment is blissfully going
about his or her own life without a thought about
you and your pain or "hurt feelings".
Choose forgiveness for you health and well being.
Remember that forgiveness is for YOU. It does not
mean you condone the behavior. It does not mean
you have to tell the other person you forgive them.
It does not mean you have to have a relationship
with them. It just means that you choose to release
yourself from the power the other person has over
you so that you can go peacefully and joyfully about
your life.

New Wings of Awareness Offerings
Love 101 for Couples and Dance as Meditation
Wings of Awareness is pleased to present Life Coach
Sheila Allicon with two new seminar offerings this
fall. Love 101 for couples is a fun and sometimes
serious look at the love relationship. This 4 week
program is for any couple that would like to improve
communication skills and fall in love all over again!
Dance as Meditation is an opportunity to experience
joy through movement. No previous dance
experience is required for this two hour program.
Just come with a desire to dance and have fun. This
is a great chance to get some exercise that is good
for your soul!
Sheila M. Allicon PLC is a graduate of Coach
University and previously worked as a counselor and
special ed teacher. Ms. Allicon has been a
professional life coach for over 7 years. She has
been featured in newspaper articles and has been
published in "Today's Coach".
